Our issue about the prison rehabilitation connects to Chicago because people go to jail in Chicago. For my AP Psychology field trip we had the opportunity to visit the jail not to far away from our school. The rumor is that they have the prison so close to little village so that the cops do not have to waste their gas on taking in criminals. Students can create original community activist projects that are modeled after successful existing organizations by bring in the organization into their own school.
Students are able to partner up with local organization like The Peoples Law Office to fight to take action against false accusations and also for those being held in prison being innocent. Because the more people involved including students the more they benefit and have more support for their organization. They help investigate crimes that some prisoners did not commit. The way students can create an original community activist project is making a similar by working with prisons like speaking to them about how they feel about the way they have their prison or how can it improve because since they are the ones their they can be able to know what is worst. Because if they can make a list then we can inform other people then actively fight for better maintenance in the prison. According to The Peoples Law Office website “On July 25, 2014 an historic $40 million settlement was announced between the Illinois State Police and the Dixmoor 5, who were wrongfully convicted based on false confessions.” Five men were accused of raping a young girl and they didn't have enough evidence to establish that they were the rapers so with the help of Peoples Law Office they were able to get out because they presented evidence that made them not be guilty of the rape.
As CNN concluded that from 1989 to 2011, Illinois had tallied the most exoneration of 101. The exoneration level is at its highest here in Illinois compare to other states which more crimes are being committed in neighborhoods and may not be safe. And this is important because we need to have a safe neighborhood for everyone to not feel afraid. According to Quad-city Times Kurt Erickson reported, “The visit is the latest step in a case dating to July 2012, when three inmates filed suit on behalf of nearly 1,900 prisoners at the facility claiming they were living in moldy, vermin-infested quarters with insufficient bathroom facilities.” More than 1,000 prisoners have claimed that the maintenances in an Illinois prison has been very poorly. And even though they have committed a crime they are still important and should be be kept in a safe environment inside the prison.
