Our topic is about how prisoners are not taking advantage of all the programs that the city is providing for them. The prison provides classes so prisoners can get their high school diploma; they also provide basic training for being a cook or cutting hair. Instead of taking advantage of these programs to get back into society, more than likely, once the criminals get out they go back to a life of crime, and eventually go back to prison. I chose this issue because prisons are very overpopulated; also when I went on the field trip to visit the prison I saw many familiar faces. I felt really bad for them, knowing that they were not terrible people. Not only that but I can relate to them, some of my own family members and friends have been to jail. I am extremely curious about their experience. I hope to find out what really goes on in prisons. This issue matters because citizens pay taxes and our money goes to prisons, but we don’t actually know if their using the money to help them get back into society.
